Polar Peak lift set to open this Saturday - check out Timberline Lodge open house after your first ski on the new runs! After months of waiting, Fernie skiers will finally get the first ride of the Polar Peak lift at the grand opening next Saturday, January 14.

A five minute ride on the new triple chair will let skiers access a whopping3550 vertical feet of skiing and 22 extra runs, including advanced black trails, and an intermediate blue run.

From the top of Polar Peak on a clear day, you get 360 views of peaks, valleys and lakes from Lake Koocanusa in the Southwest to the spine of the Canadian Rockies looking up the Elk Valley all the way into Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park.

The Polar Peak chair will also allow ski patrol to clear the Currie Bowl headwall of avalanche danger more quickly, givingaccess to Currie’s legendary powder days more quickly.

For a guide to the extra lines you can take off Polar Peak, see Skiing magazine’s article.

Powder Magazine also ran an excellent article on the measures Fernie Alpine Resort has taken to ensure skiers and snowboarders know exactly where they should ski.

With a  whole day of celebration events planned, you too can be a part of the historic opening day of Fernie’s newest lift, which is the only new lift installation going to a mountain top in North America this winter.

After your first ride on the chair, ski down to Timberline Lodges for our open house at 644 Juniper Lodge from 3-6pm.

We have a number of two bedroom suites perfectly situated and available as whole and quarter ownership.

When you own at Juniper Lodge you receive a three year membership with Interval International as well as a one year membership with Interval Gold, giving you exchange time to thousands of destinations around the world.
