Special offers on crowd-free midweek skiing at Fernie Alpine Resort
By Rebecca Edwards
A lot of my skier friends from the UK ask me what it is about the skiing at Fernie Alpine Resort that makes me want to live here and ski the same mountain every day.
It’s not the powder stashes that collect in wind pockets across the five bowls even after a few snow-free days.
It’s not the vast diversity of the mountain, from its great, wide groomed trails, to the gladed tree runs or the steep, gnarly ridges and chutes that run between each bowl.
It’s not even the Fernie factor, our name for the microclimate that can see 20cm fresh snow appear out of nowhere.
So what is it?
It’s the fact that on a weekday – and even sometimes on a weekend – it’s possible to ski fresh tracks in champagne powder, with not a single person around me.
And not just for one run. Recently I was skiing freshies until my legs finally gave out at 2pm.
For anyone who – like me – learned to ski on the crowded pistes of European ski hills, the crowd-free midweek skiing of Fernie is like having your own private ski hil.
So next time you book a vacation in Fernie, consider taking some time off work and book some midweek skiing time.
