This Just In…It’s snowing in Fernie, BC…Are you ready for November 30?
Oh my….yes indeedy…the snow is falling in Fernie and there are so many smiles around town that the flash of white teeth is as blinding as the snow itself! There is a quiet excitement snaking its way through our sleepy little town that will only gather momentum as the snow accumulates. Can you believe we are only 24 sleeps away from Opening Day at Fernie Alpine Resort? Oh you bet we are! “Newbies” are rolling into town to begin training for their winter shifts; snow shovels have found their way to sidewalks and stairways; puffy jackets and Sorels have replaced board shorts and flip-flops…need I say more? With snow in the forecast for the next week, it’s time to “winterize” yourself! Grab your snowshoes or your Nordic skis and hit the trails around the valley…enjoy the great outdoors! Speaking of December, isn’t that when The Sound of Music usually airs on TV? As a student of musical theatre, I had aspirations of performing in a stage production of this classic. In my younger days, I was convinced I could portray Liesl, the 16 year old Von Trapp daughter. Time marched on and I realized I would have to step into the more mature role of Maria, the singing nun and surely the star of the show. Well, I’m still waiting for that opportunity but it now looks as though I may have to settle for the role of the aged Mother Superior….sigh….oh well, at least I can sing all the songs no matter what character I am cast. My Favourite Things is always a great song to lift one’s spirits and so I have re-written it to a more wintery ski theme. BOOMS that awake me at dawn – blessed bombings
