Enhance your Fernie ski weekends with ski school for adults – as featured in Calgary Herald
Many families choose Fernie for their ski weekends because of Fernie Alpine Ski Team and the Nancy Greene League, which put it among the top ski resorts in Canada for kids’ ski programs.
But, what if mom and dad need a few extra ski tips to help make their ski holiday more enjoyable, or would like to meet some new ski partners to share ski weekends with?
Fernie Alpine Resort’s freeride, breakfast club and early riser programs are a great way for regular skiers to see a different side of the mountain.
Intermediate skiers can improve their ski technique by taking a six-week Freeride clinic – there is one for women and one for men.
The course fee includes a three-hour lesson every Saturday, Sunday or Wednesday morning 9:30am-12:30pm followed by lunch at the Cornerpocket Restaurant where you can mull over the morning’s discoveries with your fellow students.
The Ladies Freeride Clinic (nicknamed the You Go Girl course) was featured in the Calgary Herald this week in an article written by Fernie journalist Rebecca Edwards, who also writes regularly for Fernie Lodging Company’s Fernie Vacation Blog.
In the Calgary Herald Life supplement article, she writes:
For most women I know who started skiing as adults (including me), the steep climb from intermediate to advanced skiing involves a series of double-black-diamond-rated mental obstacles.
Whether it’s a fear of falling or injury, paranoia about tackling moguls, or frustration with the conflicting advice given by well-meaning ski companions, skiing can sometimes feel more like hard work than fun.
Luckily for frustrated intermediates, the Ladies Freeride Clinic (nicknamed the You Go Girls course) at Fernie Alpine Resort offers a remedy to those inevitable tears and tantrums on the trails.
The early risers courses (women only) run every Sunday morning when more advanced skiers get the chance to get first tracks at 7:45am before the crowds arrive and discover new terrain at Fernie Alpine Resort with ski instructors while also getting tips and advice as they ski until 11am.
Join the Breakfast Club for a filling breakfast at 7:15am on Saturdays before you get an early chair and first tracks, for a fast group ski across the mountain until 11am.
