Spring has Sprung, The Grass is Riz….Fernie Isn’t Just About Ski Vacations!

It’s spring time in the Rockies! The signs are everywhere…the ski resort is closed; snowboards, skis, boots and poles have been nostalgically stored away and mountain bikes, running shoes and golf clubs have happily re-entered the outside world!

With summer only 2 months away, the frightening thought of donning a bathing suit crept into my head as I stared at my mountain bike a few weeks ago…time to get into some spring training! The weather has warmed up – we’ve even had temps in the mid 20’s – time to get ’er done! Fernie is the perfect outdoor training venue with unlimited trails for walking, hiking and biking. Although there is still snow in them thar hills, the valley offers beautiful trails that meander along the majestic Elk River and circumnavigate the entire town. Start out nice and easy…you don’t want a spring injury that will hamper your summer activities! I should really listen to my own advice! My first bike ride of the season turned into 2 days of single track, logging road and highway riding totalling over 50kms! The legs were fine because of all the skiing I did this winter, but the cardio…well that’s another story! No injuries to report unless it’s possible to sprain a lung!

Fernie is also one of the most relaxing little resort towns to visit. If you’ve had a stressful winter, stuck in your office, didn’t have your usual ski vacation and no tropical getaway in sight, come play with us! We can find you a romantic getaway with spa treatments and private hot tubs – how about a cozy log cabin in the woods? Just remember to pack your running shoes, hiking boots and your bike to get started on your spring training!

Love Fernie in the Spring Time!
